Journalist: Steve Cooper Adds UCL Goalkeeper to Leicester City’s Transfer List This Summer

Leicester City Target Champions League-Experienced Goalkeeper to Compete with Mads Hermansen This Season

Leicester City’s preparations for the 2024/25 season have been significantly impacted by their struggle to secure sufficient attacking players ahead of the Premier League campaign.

Although Leicester has strengthened their squad with the signings of Facundo Buonanotte and Bobby De Cordova-Reid, much work remains to be done.

The club has pursued several players, including Matias Soule, who declined a move to Serie A’s Roma, and Wilfried Zaha, whose transfer seems increasingly unlikely.

Additionally, Yaser Asprilla also appears unlikely to join, as does Adam Hlozek, despite ongoing efforts.

Antwerp’s goalkeeper Jean Butez gives a press conference on the eve of the team’s Champions League football match against Barcelona in Antwerp, on December 12, 2023 in Antwerp.

While the search for attacking depth continues, Leicester is also focusing on potential goalkeepers, targeting one with Champions League experience. Ensuring that transfer priorities are addressed is crucial for the Foxes.

The summer transfer window has not been kind to Leicester, largely due to financial constraints and the departure of key players like Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

The squad remains relatively unchanged from the end of the 2023/24 season, which raises concerns about their current transfer strategy.

Goalkeeper additions will benefit Steve Cooper’s plans, but completing any deal for a goalkeeper swiftly is essential, as securing a striker remains a more pressing issue.

While a goalkeeper like Butez could be a valuable addition, given his experience in the Champions League and Europa League, addressing the striker position is critical.

If Leicester continues to delay on striker signings, there will likely be increased scrutiny on the board’s priorities, especially given the recent developments and the approaching start of the Premier League season.
