Ezri Konsa’s move from Aston Villa to Arsenal has reportedly taken a major step forward, with the transfer now described as “99% done” following an agreement between the England defender and the Premier League champions.

Arsenal have turned their attention towards strengthening their defence after completing the signing of Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United.

Mikel Arteta’s side are believed to be looking for another high-quality defender, particularly with William Saliba currently sidelined through injury.

Konsa has emerged as one of Arsenal’s leading targets.

The 28-year-old enjoyed an impressive 2025/26 season with both Aston Villa and England, while his ability to operate at centre-back or right-back makes him an attractive option for Arteta.

However, Villa are reluctant to let their defender leave cheaply.

Konsa has two years remaining on his current contract, meaning the club still have an opportunity to secure a substantial transfer fee if he departs this summer.

Earlier in the transfer window, Arsenal reportedly saw a £30million bid rejected, with Villa said to be demanding around £60million for the former Brentford defender.

The Gunners have also explored alternative options. Arsenal were recently reported to have opened discussions over a possible move for former Liverpool centre-back Jarell Quansah, who now plays for Bayer Leverkusen.

The England international is viewed as a similar alternative to Konsa, although Leverkusen remain determined to keep him.

Konsa, meanwhile, appears to be the player Arsenal are making the most progress with.

TEAMtalk reported that the defender had decided he wanted to join Arsenal, with the club preparing to return to Villa with an improved proposal.

Arsenal have already had a £40million offer rejected, but they are reportedly ready to increase their bid beyond £50million, including potential add-ons. Such a proposal could be enough to persuade Villa to negotiate seriously.

Football Insider have now taken the claims a step further, reporting that Konsa’s transfer to Arsenal is “99% done” after the player reached an agreement with the north London club.

The report states that the transfer could cost Arsenal between £60million and £65million.

Negotiations between the two clubs are said to be approaching the final stages, with an agreement expected within that range.

Sources reportedly indicate that Konsa has already agreed personal terms with Arsenal, leaving the two clubs to settle the final details of the transfer.

If the deal is completed, Arsenal would add an experienced Premier League defender capable of providing cover in multiple positions, while Villa would receive a significant fee for one of their most important players.
