Report: Key Newcastle United Star Prepared to Exit in January
Newcastle United Risk Losing Star Player to Manchester City in January Transfer Window
City Eyeing Newcastle Star Bruno Guimaraes for Midseason Move
Manchester City are reportedly targeting a new midfielder during the midseason transfer window, with Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes at the top of their list.
According to The Times, the defending Premier League champions are keen on securing the Brazil international, who is open to joining City either in January or the summer of 2025.
City expressed interest in Bruno last summer but refrained from activating his £100 million release clause.
Manager Pep Guardiola has been vocal about his admiration for the 27-year-old, describing him as “an exceptional holding midfielder” who is “aggressive, with or without the ball” in an interview with The Daily Mail in March 2024.
Newcastle Cannot Afford to Lose Bruno Midseason
For Newcastle, retaining Bruno Guimaraes until the end of the season is crucial.

Allowing the midfielder to leave in January would be a significant setback for Eddie Howe’s team.
Currently sitting just seven points shy of fourth place in the Premier League, Newcastle still have a realistic shot at securing a UEFA Champions League spot.
Bruno has been a pivotal player for the Magpies.
This season, he has provided three assists in 15 league matches, following an impressive 2023-24 campaign where he scored seven goals and contributed eight assists in 37 games.
As a club with big ambitions, Newcastle aim to maintain their presence among Europe’s elite.
Having recently competed in the Champions League, Howe will be determined to guide his team back into the competition next season.
Selling Bruno midseason would not only weaken Newcastle on the pitch but also send a disheartening message to their fans, potentially undermining the club’s long-term goals.
