Journalist Alan Myers reported via X on Monday afternoon that Leicester City winger Abdul Fatawu has emerged as a target for Everton, with David Moyes weighing up his attacking options ahead of the expected loan arrival of Manchester City’s Jack Grealish.

Leicester’s summer has been notably quiet following their relegation from the Premier League last season.

The only signing under new manager Marti Cifuentes so far is veteran goalkeeper Asmir Begovic, while several established players — including Conor Coady, Mads Hermansen, and Wilfred Ndidi — have departed.

Transfer activity has been restricted as the club prioritises generating funds through player sales, and Cifuentes has admitted that more exits could follow, hinting at ongoing “conversations” about certain players’ futures.

One name frequently linked with a move away is Bilal El Khannouss, who shone in Leicester’s 2-1 opening-day comeback win over Sheffield Wednesday, assisting both Jannik Vestegaard and Wout Faes.

The Moroccan midfielder is reportedly attracting interest from Crystal Palace, Leeds United, Newcastle United, and RB Leipzig, and a relegation release clause in his contract could accelerate a departure.

Fatawu, too, could be among those heading for the exit. According to Myers, the 21-year-old winger is on Everton’s shortlist for the remainder of the window.

This follows news earlier in the day that Everton had ended their pursuit of Southampton youngster Tyler Dibling after being unable to agree a transfer fee.

Sky Sports reported last week that both Fatawu and El Khannouss were on the radar of Premier League sides.

However, Leicester are believed to be holding out for a significant fee before parting with Fatawu, who remains under contract until 2029.

The Ghanaian international first joined Leicester on loan from Sporting CP, impressing in their Championship title-winning campaign with six goals and 13 assists.

That form prompted the Foxes to make his move permanent.

Fatawu began last season brightly in the Premier League before suffering a serious ACL injury in November, cutting short his top-flight campaign.

Now fully fit, he has looked sharp in pre-season, catching attention with a superb solo goal in a 2-0 friendly win over Fiorentina and delivering another strong performance against Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday.

For Leicester, losing Fatawu this summer would be a major setback. Even with his injury absence last season, his quality and impact are well established.

Before his setback, he had already demonstrated that he could handle the demands of Premier League football, while his Championship displays two years ago marked him out as one of the division’s standout players.

At 21, Fatawu’s pace, skill, and creativity make him a unique weapon at second-tier level, a player capable of unlocking defences almost at will.

Keeping him would significantly strengthen Leicester’s chances of securing an immediate return to the Premier League.

His departure, however, would leave a void in Cifuentes’ plans. Without Fatawu’s proven influence, the manager might be forced to turn to younger, less experienced options such as Will Alves or Jeremy Monga to fill the gap on the flanks.

With the transfer window still open and both Premier League and overseas clubs circling, Leicester face a tense few weeks ahead.

Whether they can resist the lure of a substantial offer for Fatawu — and retain one of their most potent attacking threats — could go a long way toward defining their season.
