Report: Newcastle aiming to hijack £25.3m move for dynamic Miguel Almiron successor

After six years at the club, it appears Almiron’s time on Tyneside is nearing its conclusion.

Newcastle United is reportedly prepared to accept an offer from Atlanta United for Almiron, with a fee around £10 million.

This decision leaves manager Eddie Howe with Jacob Murphy as his primary option on the right wing of the attack.

Almiron has struggled for game time this season, featuring only seven times in the Premier League, mostly as a substitute.

Despite his expected departure, Newcastle is unlikely to sign a replacement in the January transfer window.

The club has been offered Takefusa Kubo from Real Sociedad but declined, and they missed out on Donyell Malen, who joined Aston Villa from Borussia Dortmund.

Nevertheless, Newcastle has recently been linked to a potential replacement—a Brazilian winger who could fill Almiron’s role effectively.

Newcastle Targets Luiz Henrique

Luiz Henrique’s performances this season have garnered attention from several Premier League clubs.

The 24-year-old Brazilian played a pivotal role in Botafogo’s success last season, scoring seven goals and providing three assists as they secured their first Brazilian Serie A title since 1995.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Newcastle is considering hijacking a deal for Henrique, who is also attracting interest from Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace.

Crystal Palace could have an edge due to their owner, John Textor, holding a stake in Botafogo.

However, the report suggests Newcastle now seems more likely to secure Henrique’s signature.

Botafogo has set a £25.3 million price tag for Henrique and imposed a deadline for clubs to formalize their interest.

Growing frustrated with ongoing speculation, the Brazilian side is eager for concrete offers for their winger.

Newcastle had shown interest in Henrique back in 2023, during his time at Real Betis. However, he made the move to Botafogo in February 2024.

Henrique, a versatile player, primarily operates as a right winger. Similar to Almiron, he is left-footed but plays on the right side of the attack.

Henrique’s Role at Newcastle

If Newcastle completes the signing, Howe could deploy Henrique as a right winger, left winger, or even as a center-forward.

Henrique would not only serve as a direct replacement for Almiron but could also provide cover for Alexander Isak in case of injury.

As Newcastle competes for a top-four finish in the Premier League and aims for Champions League qualification, the team requires squad depth.

Currently sitting fourth in the league, the Magpies need reinforcements to sustain their strong run.

Henrique could also challenge Murphy for a starting spot.

If he performs well, he may solidify his position in the first team, proving to be an excellent addition to Newcastle’s squad.
