Report: Player Eager to Join Everton as Club Shifts Focus to New Targets Following Lindstrom Deal
Everton Set to Finalize Signing of Denmark Winger Jesper Lindstrom by Week's End
Fabrizio Romano has reported that Everton has finalized a loan deal for the 24-year-old Danish winger from Napoli.
He will soon undergo a medical at the club, and Everton will have the option to make the transfer permanent next summer, with Lindstrom set to sign a four-year contract if the deal is made permanent.
This move allows Everton to focus on additional targets despite a recent setback in their takeover talks. With funds available following Aston Villa’s £50 million purchase of Amadou Onana, Everton is poised to strengthen their squad.
According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Everton may now turn their attention to Leeds United winger Wilfried Gnonto, who remains a high priority for the club.
Inews reports that Gnonto is interested in the move, but negotiating the deal is expected to be challenging.
Everton is working within tight financial constraints and is unwilling to overspend. The club has raised transfer funds from the sales of Onana, Ben Godfrey, and Lewis Dobbin, and will only pursue Gnonto if it aligns with their budget.
Had Everton acted last month, they might have had a better chance of signing Gnonto, as Leeds was looking to offload players to meet Financial Fair Play requirements and might have been more willing to negotiate.
However, following recent player sales, including Archie Gray to Tottenham Hotspur, Leeds is under less pressure to sell key players unless a substantial offer is presented.
Gnonto had previously requested a transfer last summer, but there is no current indication that he urgently wants to leave. As such, Everton will need to make a very compelling offer to persuade him to move from Elland Road.
