According to Alasdair Gold, Simon Davies has declined an offer to become Wales’ assistant coach, opting to remain in his current role as Tottenham’s academy director.
Davies initially joined Tottenham two years ago as head of methodology for the Under-21s. He was then promoted to academy director after Dean Rastrick vacated the position last year. Davies has an extensive background in coaching, beginning his career at Chester City. In 2013, he took on the role of assistant manager for Manchester City’s Under-21s. Over the years, he progressed through the ranks at Manchester City, eventually becoming the club’s head of academy coaching in 2018. He later joined Vincent Kompany as an assistant at Anderlecht before making the move to North London to join Tottenham.
Gold reported that Craig Bellamy, the newly appointed Wales manager, reached out to the 50-year-old Davies, offering him the role of assistant coach. Bellamy took over from Rob Page, who was dismissed as Wales manager last month after declining to stay at Burnley under the new boss, Scott Parker.
Despite the offer from Bellamy, Davies decided against taking up the position and will continue in his role at Tottenham for the foreseeable future. This decision ensures that he will remain a key part of Tottenham’s coaching staff, contributing to the development of the club’s young talent.
