Life away from Tottenham Hotspur hasn’t gone quite as expected for Will Lankshear.

Since joining West Bromwich Albion on loan and making his debut against Millwall, the young striker has largely found himself confined to the bench, struggling to earn starting opportunities.

However, things took a positive turn in West Brom’s most recent match, as Lankshear was finally given his first start in nine games.

The decision paid off, with the former Spurs academy star delivering a performance that drew widespread acclaim.

During the 74 minutes he played against Watford, Lankshear showcased his full potential, impressing both fans and local media alike.

West Brom supporters took to social media to praise the youngster’s effort, while The Express and Star described his display as “top.”

According to The Express and Star: “Will Lankshear was handed a starting role after Tony Mowbray hinted he would be involved, and he certainly justified that decision.

He displayed all the qualities he had previously shown in brief appearances — and more.

“He was physically strong, held the ball up excellently, and gave a classic target-man performance.

Beyond that, his movement, link-up play, and relentless work rate were outstanding.

He didn’t look out of place at all. The only thing missing from a superb outing was a goal — and it wasn’t for lack of chances.

“Lankshear had three clear opportunities, which he’ll surely regret not converting. A goal would have been the perfect end to what was an impressive showing.

Based on this performance, it’s likely we’ll see more of the young Spurs loanee in action.

“To be fair, had Adam Armstrong not arrived on deadline day, we might have seen more of Lankshear already.

Regardless, this was an encouraging display from the talented forward.”

Jermain Defoe tips Lankshear for big things at Tottenham

That 74-minute appearance was Lankshear’s most extended stint on the pitch since departing Tottenham on loan.

Despite limited chances so far, former Spurs striker Jermain Defoe continues to back the youngster’s long-term prospects.

Defoe, now a coach at Tottenham, sees significant promise in Lankshear and has even suggested the forward could follow in the footsteps of Harry Kane.

“Will Lankshear is a real talent,” said Defoe. “He’s an old-school number nine — a proper striker.

He works hard, scores goals for fun with the under-21s, and celebrates every goal, even in training.

“He’s got that hunger and drive you want to see in a striker.

I believe once his loan is over, he’ll come back ready to push for a place in the first team and, hopefully, score goals for Spurs for many years to come.”
