Celtic are reportedly open to selling Nicolas Kuhn for just £15 million this summer, despite the winger becoming a standout performer for the club last season.

Kuhn, who joined Celtic 18 months ago for just £3 million, has enjoyed a breakout campaign, contributing an impressive 36 goals and assists across all competitions.

One of the highlights of his season was scoring in a 1-1 Champions League draw away to Bayern Munich — a former club of his where he spent two years earlier in his career.

Newcastle United are among the clubs monitoring Kuhn’s progress, with scouts believed to have watched him in action during the Bayern tie.

Despite a slight dip in form towards the end of the season, the 25-year-old remains one of Celtic’s most valuable assets.

A Budget-Friendly Right-Wing Option for Newcastle

Right wing is a position Newcastle are eager to strengthen this summer. Jacob Murphy is currently their only natural option in that role.

Reports suggest the Magpies retain an interest in Kuhn, who could be available for a relatively modest £15 million — a fraction of the fee Brentford are demanding for Bryan Mbeumo.

Mbeumo, also admired by Newcastle, has been linked with Manchester United and Tottenham, with Brentford setting a valuation around £60 million.

Another target, Nottingham Forest’s Anthony Elanga, would command a fee closer to £50 million.

In contrast, Kuhn is seen as a lower-risk investment due to his lower cost, although his lack of experience in a top European league is noted.

Chris Sutton Urges Caution

Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has warned against cashing in on Kuhn too soon. Writing in the Daily Record, Sutton expressed doubts about whether the club would even fetch £15 million for him this summer.

“There will be a time to sell Kuhn, but now is not the time,” Sutton wrote. “He had a shaky start in Scotland, partly due to weight loss from dental issues, but came alive in the first half of the season and looked like a potential player of the year.

However, after the Bayern Munich match, his form dipped, and questions about his consistency have emerged.”

Sutton added that while Newcastle were linked back in January, it’s hard to see Kuhn displacing current wide options like Harvey Barnes or Anthony Gordon at St. James’ Park.

Interest From Germany

RB Leipzig are also said to be eyeing a move for Kuhn, a natural link given his eye-catching performance against them in the Champions League. Sutton, however, believes it’s premature for Celtic to consider a sale.

“Celtic won’t get top dollar now, but Kuhn’s value could rise significantly. He’s not ready yet. Unlike players such as Matt O’Riley and Kieran Tierney, who had clearly outgrown Celtic before moving on, Kuhn still has more to prove,” Sutton concluded.
