Report: Tottenham believe they can sign £22.1m captain in January, with Postecoglou planning to rotate him alongside Maddison.
Tottenham have recovered from a five-game winless streak with two consecutive victories.
Tottenham Hotspur recently secured dominant victories, first thrashing Southampton 5-0 in the Premier League last Sunday, followed by a 4-3 win over Manchester United in the Carabao Cup on Thursday, despite a poor performance from Fraser Forster in goal.
While these results show some improvement, there remains significant room for development under manager Ange Postecoglou, who may benefit from adding new players to his squad for greater depth.
According to Football Transfers, Tottenham is targeting Julian Brandt in the upcoming January transfer window.
Spurs have ramped up their interest in the Germany international after determining that Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze would be too costly.
Tottenham believes Brandt could offer valuable cover for James Maddison in the attacking midfield role and provide Postecoglou with more flexibility in his forward options.
Brandt, currently with Borussia Dortmund, is versatile, capable of playing on either wing or even as a striker, adding variety to Spurs’ attacking options.
Although Tottenham’s transfer budget for January is expected to be tight, they are optimistic about signing Brandt at a reasonable price.
With only 18 months left on his contract, Borussia Dortmund might be willing to sell him in January to avoid losing him for a reduced fee in the summer.
The 28-year-old has made 18 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring two goals and providing five assists.
He has also captained Dortmund six times in the absence of Emre Can.
Brandt, who was signed from Bayer Leverkusen for £22.1 million in May 2019, is highly regarded in Germany.
Jurgen Klopp once expressed interest in signing Brandt over Mohamed Salah for Liverpool, highlighting his potential.
Interestingly, Kai Havertz, who is close friends with Brandt, once claimed that Brandt was outperforming both Erling Haaland and Jadon Sancho, despite the somewhat biased nature of the comment.
Havertz praised Brandt’s form, stating, “Sancho and Haaland aren’t playing too badly either, but at the moment he’s the best player at Dortmund.”
Should Tottenham secure Brandt’s signature, the two friends could become even closer geographically, with Brandt potentially moving to north London, reinforcing Spurs’ attacking options for the future.
