Report: Tottenham Targeting Move for £226,000-a-Week Speedster

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing Barcelona forward Ansu Fati during the January transfer window, according to Sport.

Spurs have experienced a mixed 2024/25 season so far.

Under Ange Postecoglou’s management, the team has struggled in the Premier League, occupying a mid-table position at the halfway stage of the campaign.

Despite their league challenges, Tottenham’s season has not been entirely disappointing.

They have reached the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup and hold a one-goal advantage heading into the second leg against Liverpool.

Injuries have significantly impacted Tottenham’s squad, prompting early activity in the January transfer market.

The club has already signed goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky from Slavia Prague to provide competition for Fraser Forster and Guglielmo Vicario, both of whom have been plagued by injuries this season.

Tottenham’s Interest in Ansu Fati

Ansu Fati, under Barcelona manager Hansi Flick, has struggled for game time this season, making just eight appearances due to a muscle injury earlier in the campaign.

Flick appears to favor Raphinha and Lamine Yamal as his primary wing options, casting doubt on Fati’s long-term role at the club.

This situation has drawn the attention of Tottenham, who are eager to strengthen their squad further.

According to Sport, Spurs are one of several clubs interested in Fati, who earns £226,000 per week and may be available for a six-month loan.

West Ham United, managed by Graham Potter, are also reportedly keen on the winger as they seek to bolster their attack.

With Niclas Füllkrug dealing with injuries since joining last summer and Michail Antonio sidelined for around a year due to a traffic accident, West Ham see Fati as a potential solution.

Meanwhile, Turkish club Besiktas have also expressed interest in signing the pacey forward if a deal can be reached.

Fati’s Struggles and Career Journey

Ansu Fati made a sensational breakthrough into Barcelona’s first team in 2019 as a teenager, quickly earning recognition as a future superstar.

He impressed early on, even being awarded the iconic number 10 jersey following Lionel Messi’s departure to Paris Saint-Germain in 2021.

However, Fati’s progress has been hindered by injuries. In 2020, he began experiencing significant fitness issues, derailing his development.

During the 2021/22 season, he managed just 10 La Liga appearances. Although his involvement improved in the following campaign, he struggled to cement a place in the starting lineup.

Fati spent the 2023/24 season on loan at Brighton & Hove Albion, where he showed glimpses of his potential but failed to fully revive his career.

As the January transfer window progresses, Tottenham and other suitors hope to offer him a fresh opportunity to rediscover his form.
