West Ham are reportedly eyeing a move for Ajax winger Steven Bergwijn, amidst competition from Saudi Arabian clubs also vying for the Dutchman’s signature.
The Hammers are keen to rejuvenate their squad this summer, having already made notable signings such as centre-back Max Kilman, young midfielder Luis Guilherme, and goalkeeper Wes Foderingham.
According to reports from De Telegraaf, West Ham’s next target is to bolster their forward line, with Bergwijn emerging as a prime candidate to return to the Premier League after his stint with Tottenham Hotspur. The 26-year-old winger joined Spurs in January 2020 and accumulated 83 appearances, contributing eight goals and nine assists before his departure following a fallout with manager Antonio Conte.
West Ham had initially expressed interest in Bergwijn during the January transfer window but were hindered by Financial Fair Play regulations. Now, they are said to be ready to revive their pursuit of the versatile attacker.
Ajax, however, are reluctant to part ways with Bergwijn, who impressed by scoring 12 goals in 24 Eredivisie appearances last season. Nevertheless, the Dutch club faces financial pressures and may consider selling one of their valuable assets, including Bergwijn, if a suitable offer is tabled.
