Tottenham Hotspur have reached January 20 with only a backup goalkeeper signed, despite facing an unprecedented injury crisis.
The club had 12 senior players unavailable for their trip to Goodison Park, and those who remain fit are pushing their limits.
After the match, manager Ange Postecoglou made it clear to Daniel Levy and the board that reinforcements are urgently needed, with only two weeks left before the January transfer window closes.
Regarding Dominic Solanke’s injury, Postecoglou stated that it does not alter the club’s transfer plans, as a new attacker was needed even before Solanke’s setback.
Brennan Johnson is also sidelined for a few weeks, further limiting Postecoglou’s attacking options and increasing the pressure on the club to sign a forward.
The Australian manager emphasized that the need for help in the transfer market is “evident,” urging Levy to take action.
When asked if Solanke’s injury changes the transfer strategy, Postecoglou responded, “It doesn’t really.
It was pretty clear before that we needed help, and tonight we had 11 or 12 players missing.
We’re still awaiting updates on Rodrigo [Bentancur], but no one else is really due back soon.
We have a European game on Thursday, and we won’t be able to use Djed or Reguilon, so we’re in this situation.”
In terms of injuries, Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero are expected to return against Leicester, which will be a welcome boost to Tottenham’s defense.
However, the injury list remains long, with nine players still unavailable, including Guglielmo Vicario, Rodrigo Bentancur, Destiny Udogie, Yves Bissouma, Solanke, and Johnson.
For their upcoming trip to Hoffenheim, the team will also be without Sergio Reguilon and Djed Spence, who are not registered for the squad.
