Report: West Ham Poised to Secure Wes Foderingham on a Free Transfer

West Ham United are on the verge of securing their second signing for the summer transfer window, with Wes Foderingham poised to join the club on a free transfer.

Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Seth reveals that the Sheffield United goalkeeper will sign a two-year deal with the Hammers once his contract at Bramall Lane expires.

Foderingham is set to become West Ham’s third-choice goalkeeper, providing cover for Alphonse Areola and Lukasz Fabianski at the London Stadium.

Manager Tim Steidten has prioritized strengthening the goalkeeping department this summer, especially with Joseph Anang set to depart when his contract expires later this month.

Anang, a product of West Ham’s youth system, did not make a senior appearance despite joining the first team in January 2023.

In addition to Anang’s imminent exit, 20-year-old Jacob Knightbridge has also left the club to join Oxford United in the Championship in search of regular playing time.

English goalkeeper Nathan Trott is also nearing a permanent departure from the London Stadium this summer, underscoring the necessity for a new third-choice keeper.

Foderingham is an ideal candidate to fill this role, allowing Steidten to concentrate on strengthening other areas of the squad.

Further signings anticipated

Last week, West Ham completed their first signing of the Lopetegui era, securing Brazilian Under-20 winger Luis Guilherme from Palmeiras in a £25 million deal.

As the squad undergoes a comprehensive overhaul, more additions are expected this summer.

The club has been linked with Wolverhampton Wanderers captain Max Kilman and Sevilla striker Youssef En-Nesyri.

Kilman is seen as the primary target to bolster the defense, particularly with uncertainties surrounding Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd’s futures at the London Stadium.

A striker remains a top priority on the shopping list, with En-Nesyri emerging as the preferred option for Lopetegui to reunite with in East London.
