In their newspaper (26 July, pg. 13), it was reported that West Ham initially wanted Noussair Mazraoui on loan but have now agreed to a permanent deal.
The agreement is for an initial sum of £13 million, with an additional £3 million in add-ons, to bring the right-back to the London Stadium.
BILD describes the deal as “almost perfect” after West Ham agreed to Bayern’s demands for a permanent transfer.
West Ham to secure second defensive signing of the summer
Julen Lopetegui has made defense a priority this summer, with West Ham set to announce their second defensive signing.
Earlier this month, West Ham signed Max Kilman from Wolves for £40 million after a protracted negotiation (The Guardian, 7 July), and are now set to add Mazraoui to their ranks.
The Moroccan, who can play as either right-back or left-back, made 29 appearances for Bayern Munich last season.
Mazraoui has spent two years in Germany following his move from Ajax in 2022, bringing a wealth of top-flight and Champions League experience to the squad.
Manchester United are also interested in Mazraoui but would need to sell Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who declined a move to West Ham in favor of a potential transfer to Inter Milan (The Athletic, 25 July).
Lopetegui needs to finalize the deal quickly to prevent a potential hijack by Premier League rivals. Interest from Manchester United could jeopardize the transfer as West Ham have yet to finalize personal terms with Mazraoui, but they currently lead the race due to their agreement with Bayern Munich.
The 26-year-old could join the squad in the USA for pre-season and start his integration into the team ahead of an important season at the London Stadium.
