Jordan Ayew set to join Leicester from Crystal Palace as attacking reinforcements remain a priority in the final week of the transfer window.
Leicester City are on the verge of securing their seventh signing of the summer, with Jordan Ayew currently undergoing a medical ahead of an £8 million transfer from Crystal Palace.
Interest in the seasoned Ghanaian forward surfaced a few weeks ago, and the deal has since gained momentum.
A transfer fee has been agreed upon, with £5 million to be paid upfront.
The move is expected to be finalized in time for Leicester’s first away match of the season against Fulham on Saturday, with a 3 p.m. kickoff.
Ayew, who turns 33 next month, has played in various positions throughout his career but has recently been utilized as a wide forward.
It’s likely that Leicester are targeting him to bolster their options on the wings.
However, his arrival will not deter the club from pursuing a new striker before the transfer deadline next week.
Ayew has spent six seasons at Crystal Palace, where he has been a consistent presence in the squad.
Last season, he featured in 35 of Palace’s Premier League matches, starting 30 of them, and contributed four goals and seven assists.
While Ayew is known for his creativity and pressing ability, he has not been particularly prolific, netting just 12 goals in his last 148 appearances for the Eagles.
Despite already having a wealth of experience, Leicester will benefit from Ayew’s extensive Premier League background, which includes stints at Palace, Swansea, and Aston Villa, totaling 275 Premier League appearances.
This summer, Leicester have already signed Bobby De Cordova-Reid, Michael Golding, Caleb Okoli, Abdul Fatawu, Facundo Buonanotte, and Oliver Skipp.
As the transfer deadline approaches, the club remains focused on adding attacking players, with a striker being the top priority.
Another attacking midfielder could also be brought in, potentially leading to loan departures.
