REVIEW: Leeds United Sought to Include Fringe Tottenham Midfielder in Archie Gray Transfer

Tottenham Hotspur have made their first summer signing, acquiring Archie Gray from Leeds United in a highly anticipated deal. As part of the agreement, Spurs defender Joe Rodon, who spent the previous season at Elland Road, will move to the Yorkshire club in a separate transaction.

During negotiations for Joe Rodon, Leeds also inquired about Tottenham academy graduate Oliver Skipp, according to Tottenham correspondent Alasdair Gold. Leeds United, managed by Daniel Farke, have shown significant interest in Skipp. Farke, who is a great admirer of the highly-rated midfielder, previously worked with Skipp during Norwich City’s Championship-winning season in 2020–21. Skipp’s impressive performances that season earned him a spot in the 2021 PFA Team of the Year.

Despite Leeds’ interest, Tottenham are not looking to part ways with the 23-year-old. The club intends to retain Skipp beyond this summer, recognizing his potential and viewing him as a crucial part of their future. Although he faces stiff competition for playing time under manager Ange Postecoglou, Skipp remains integral to Tottenham’s long-term plans for success.

In the recently concluded season, Skipp made 24 appearances in all competitions, starting seven games and accumulating around 900 minutes of playing time. Having joined the club in 2008, Skipp has progressed through the youth ranks at White Hart Lane, steadily developing into a promising talent.

Tottenham’s decision to hold onto Skipp reflects their belief in his abilities and their commitment to nurturing homegrown talent for future success.
