Rangers boss Russell Martin shows no hesitation in backing transfer market moves
Rangers have already secured 10 new signings this summer, yet business at Ibrox is far from finished.

Manager Russell Martin is still pushing for more reinforcements before the transfer window closes.
Russell Martin eyes Jayden Meghoma
One player on Rangers’ radar is Jayden Meghoma. With Jefte expected to leave for Palmeiras in a £6million deal, the club is short of a reliable option at full-back.
According to the Daily Mail (16 August), Rangers are set to bring Meghoma in on loan. The 19-year-old previously played under Martin at Southampton and is now with Brentford, who want him to gain further first-team experience.
Brentford signed Meghoma from Southampton last summer in a £10million move. In the second half of the 2024/25 season, he was loaned to Preston North End, where he made 14 appearances across all competitions.
Martin was an admirer of Meghoma during their time together at Southampton. After a 3-0 FA Cup win over Watford, he even highlighted the youngster’s potential in a conversation with veteran midfielder Jake Livermore. Quoted by Alfie House via X on 7 February 2024, Martin said:
“I just had a chat with Jake Livermore about how talented a player Jayden Meghoma is. He is mature, calm and intelligent. He is really developing the defensive side of his game.”
Why Meghoma may not be the answer
While Meghoma has talent, questions remain about whether he is ready to replace Jefte. His performances at Preston were underwhelming, with the club struggling near the bottom of the Championship.
At just 19 years old and with only 22 senior appearances, Meghoma may be a reasonable squad option, but expecting him to step in as a starter could prove costly.
Rangers already have defensive concerns this season, and adding a largely untested youngster is unlikely to resolve them.
If Martin truly wants to strengthen his side and ease mounting pressure at Ibrox, he may need to turn his attention elsewhere in the market.
