According to Sky Sports, Nottingham Forest boss Sean Dyche is eager to reunite with McNeil, having previously worked with him at both Burnley and Everton.

A report dated 30 January claims the Tricky Trees are weighing up a late move to bring the 26-year-old to the City Ground.

However, Everton are said to be reluctant to sanction McNeil’s exit unless a suitable replacement is brought in first.

With attacking options already limited, the club are keen to avoid weakening their squad during a crucial stage of the season.

McNeil could still play a part under Moyes, especially with Grealish sidelined for a prolonged period.

At present, Iliman Ndiaye and Tyler Dibling are the only other fit, natural wide players available to the Scottish manager, aside from McNeil himself.

As a result, Everton are taking a cautious approach, prioritising attacking reinforcements before making any final call on McNeil’s future.

Everton identify potential replacement

Chelsea winger Tyrique George has emerged as a possible target, with Moyes reportedly interested in securing the youngster on loan.

The England Under-21 international has struggled for regular minutes at Stamford Bridge this season, and his situation has not improved following Enzo Maresca’s exit.
