“Unthinkable” – BBC Chief Highlights Everton’s Growing Concerns and Friedkin’s Preferred Dyche Outcome

A crushing 4-0 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday (1 December) has left Everton just two points above the Premier League relegation zone.
With the Friedkin Group’s takeover imminent and a move to the Bramley-Moore Dock stadium on the horizon, BBC chief football writer Phil McNulty deemed it “unthinkable” for the club to begin next season in the Championship.
In a piece for the BBC Sport website (2 December), McNulty wrote, “The ideal scenario for Friedkin would arguably have been for Dyche to see Everton safe this season, then depart for the new owner’s chosen replacement when his contract expires in the summer.
However, recent events have heightened the nervous atmosphere around Goodison Park, as the thought of starting next season in the Championship at the new stadium is unimaginable.”
Sean Dyche now faces the challenge of reigniting Everton’s Premier League form.
While there have been moments this season when the team has demonstrated they can compete with the top clubs, their overall performances have often been subpar.
Despite an unbeaten run a month ago, Everton’s inconsistency across the campaign has been glaring.
Without a drastic improvement in form, it’s difficult to see how they can escape the looming threat of relegation.
Supporters had hoped the club’s solid summer transfer window, which saw Dyche strengthen key areas, would finally keep Everton out of another relegation scrap.
However, those expectations have yet to materialize, and the team remains mired in trouble.
If results don’t improve soon, Friedkin may find himself facing a much more significant challenge than anticipated.
Fans, eager for the new ownership to solve the club’s woes swiftly, may be disappointed if the task proves more complex than it seems.
