Leicester City Manager Discusses Future of Homegrown Players Luke Thomas and Will Alves Following 4-0 Defeat to Everton
Ruud van Nistelrooy has stated that Luke Thomas will not be sold before the transfer deadline on Monday unless new players are brought in.
The homegrown left-back has been linked with a move to Bundesliga club Hoffenheim in recent weeks due to limited game time at City.
Thomas has only featured once under van Nistelrooy in the 2-1 loss to Aston Villa and has not even made the bench for the last two matches.
New signing Woyo Coulibaly now seems to be the backup full-back behind first-choice players James Justin and Victor Kristiansen.
Additionally, Ricardo Pereira is recovering from a hamstring injury and could be back in action by March.
Despite these changes, Thomas will not be allowed to leave.
When asked about a potential departure before the deadline, van Nistelrooy responded after the 4-0 defeat to Everton, saying, “Not when there are no players in.”
The Dutch manager’s comments about potential incoming transfers offered little optimism.
He emphasized his focus on the current squad, stating that any new arrivals would be a “bonus.”
However, van Nistelrooy did confirm one imminent move.
Young attacking midfielder Will Alves is set to join Championship side Cardiff on loan for the remainder of the season.
“It’s very good for Will to go play minutes in the Championship with Cardiff,” van Nistelrooy told BBC Radio Leicester.
“We’ll monitor his progress and aim to bring him back to Leicester in the summer.”
