“Assess in Training” – Pundit Weighs in on Rangers’ Potential Free Agent Signing

On 2 January, BBO Sports reported that Rangers are considering re-signing 28-year-old Ryan Kent in January.

Currently unattached after leaving Fenerbahce, Kent is available on a free transfer and could begin training with Rangers immediately.

Speaking to PLZ Soccer on 3 January, McManus said: “Kent, I think, divides Rangers fans.

He was fantastic during the season when the club stopped 10-in-a-row under Steven Gerrard, and his European performances were exceptional.

“However, toward the end of his time at Rangers, his form dipped, and he left on a free transfer.

There’s no harm in Rangers bringing him in, assessing him in training, and letting Philippe Clement decide.

Since he’s a free agent, we’ll just have to wait and see.”

Rangers must be certain about Ryan Kent’s value

If Rangers don’t see Kent as a consistent first-team player, signing him doesn’t make sense.

Re-signing him could suggest the club lacks forward planning and is relying on former players who departed on free transfers.

Fans are likely to remember the end of Kent’s Ibrox stint, where his effort appeared to wane.

That kind of attitude won’t be welcome, and Clement must carefully evaluate the situation before approving the move.

Additionally, there may be better options available, potentially even among the current Rangers squad.

Kent’s return seems improbable, and if it happens, it would be a surprising decision.
