Ruud van Nistelrooy Urges Leicester City to Let Jamie Vardy Decide His Future

Leicester Legend Jamie Vardy Enters Final Eight Games Unless New Deal Is Signed

Ruud van Nistelrooy believes Jamie Vardy has earned the right to decide his Leicester City future, and the next eight games shouldn’t be his last with the club.

With Leicester City seemingly destined for relegation to the Championship, there’s growing speculation that Vardy’s illustrious career at the King Power Stadium could end this season.

The club is expected to operate with a tighter budget in the second tier, and renewing the contract of a 38-year-old high earner may not be financially practical.

However, van Nistelrooy argues that Vardy’s 13-year service to the club means he should have a significant role in determining his future.

If Vardy wants to stay, the manager believes he should be given that opportunity.

Despite his age, Vardy has shown he’s still physically capable.

He’s only missed two Premier League games this season and is fourth in the squad for minutes played.

While he started the season well, scoring six goals in his first 14 appearances, his form has dipped, with just one goal in the last 14 games — a period in which Leicester’s scoring overall has also declined.

Addressing Vardy’s recent struggles, van Nistelrooy said: “Everyone gives their all, and when it doesn’t go your way, it’s naturally frustrating.

But Jamie is the type who keeps going. He trains hard, supports the team, and continues to take responsibility for the club like he always has.”

He continued, “What Jamie has brought to this club over the years deserves respect. He’s earned the right to have a big say in what happens next.”

Van Nistelrooy made it clear he still believes in Vardy, saying, “There’s no doubt in my mind that he’s the right captain and starting striker for Monday against Newcastle — and that he should help shape his own future at Leicester City.”
