The New Orleans Saints are set to add Andrew Janocko as their new quarterbacks coach, reportedly reuniting him with Gary Kubiak, the team’s incoming offensive coordinator. Kubiak and Janocko previously worked together during their tenure with the Minnesota Vikings in 2021, where Janocko served as the Vikings’ quarterbacks coach.
Janocko, aged 35, will step into the role vacated b Ronalyd Curry, who departed the Saints to join the Buffalo Bills after not being promoted to offensive coordinator. Janocko arrives in New Orleans after spending the past two seasons as the quarterbacks coach for the Chicago Bears, where he played a role in the development of 2021 first-round draft pick Justin Fields. However, Janocko, along with Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy and wide receivers coach Tyke Tolbert, was let go after the recent season.
Despite Getsy finding a new position as the Las Vegas Raiders’ offensive coordinator, Janocko opted to join Kubiak’s staff in New Orleans. Janocko’s journey with the Vikings began in 2015 as an offensive quality control coach and included various roles such as assistant offensive line coach, co-offensive line coach, and wide receivers coach before assuming the quarterbacks coach position in 2021.
In New Orleans, Janocko will work with quarterbacks such as Derek Carr, Jake Haener, Taysom Hill, and potentially Jameis Winston if he re-signs with the Saints this offseason. Janocko’s hiring, initially reported by ESPN, also reunites him with Saints tight ends coach Clancy Barone, with whom he worked in Minnesota during a stint as co-offensive line coaches.
The Saints’ coaching staff has undergone significant changes this offseason, including the departure of several key figures such as offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael, offensive line coach Doug Marrone, and wide receivers coach Kodi Burns. Kubiak is expected to bring additional coaches with him to New Orleans, with John Benton being considered a top candidate for the offensive line coach position. However, Kubiak’s official hiring is pending until after the Super Bowl, as he is currently coaching with the San Francisco 49ers.
