“Shambles” – Journalist Slams Rangers for Wasting Money on Transfer Despite Ferguson’s Warning

Under Barry Ferguson’s management, Bajrami has been benched in the new interim boss’s first two matches, leaving doubts about his involvement in Rangers’ crucial Europa League clash against Fenerbahce on Thursday, March 6.

Bajrami: A Costly Error as Rangers Need a Central Midfielder

Scottish journalist Mark Guidi has strongly criticized Rangers for their decision to sign Bajrami, labeling the transfer a waste of money.

He believes the club ignored Ferguson’s call for an experienced central midfielder and instead spent a significant fee on a player who has failed to contribute meaningfully.

Guidi is not surprised by Rangers’ struggles this season, pointing to poor decision-making at the boardroom level.

He particularly highlighted the club’s handling of Ianis Hagi’s situation, which he considers a major misstep.

Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show (March 4), Guidi said:

“Bajrami, what an absolute waste of money. I pointed it out at the time. Rangers had Hagi on their books, but instead of resolving his contract situation, they went out and spent £3.4 million on Bajrami.

And what had Ferguson been saying before the transfer window closed? That they desperately needed a central midfielder with experience.

“You can’t rely on Raskin, Diomande, and Barron alone. What did they do instead?

They signed a player similar to Hagi, only to reconcile with Hagi a week later and bring him back into the squad.

The decision-making at the club has been wild and completely off course. No wonder they are where they are—it’s been an absolute shambles.”

Ferguson Unlikely to Depend on Bajrami

Barry Ferguson’s tenure as interim manager has had a rocky start, with the Gers losing 2-1 at home to Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership.

The former Rangers captain may already be questioning his decision to take the job, given the numerous issues within the squad.

Philippe Clement’s dismissal at Ibrox came after a disappointing run where key players failed to deliver in crucial moments, particularly in the Scottish Cup defeat to Queen’s Park.

Despite showing signs of improvement earlier in the season, the Belgian manager was ultimately unable to turn things around.

Now, Ferguson is witnessing firsthand the inconsistencies that plagued Rangers under Clement.

His immediate challenge is to prepare the team for a difficult Europa League encounter against Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce at the Ulker Stadium.

The club faces a major shake-up at the end of the season, with the 49ers Enterprises and Andrew Cavenagh reportedly close to completing a takeover.

If that deal goes through, significant changes could be on the horizon, both on and off the pitch.

For Bajrami, his future at Ibrox remains uncertain. Unless he can start delivering performances worthy of his price tag, his time at Rangers may be short-lived.
