Newcastle United forward Will Osula is reportedly open to weighing up his options ahead of the January transfer window.

The 22-year-old came close to leaving St James’ Park on a frantic deadline day, with Newcastle prepared to accept a £30million offer from Eintracht Frankfurt.

The Bundesliga side were initially set on a permanent deal before switching to a loan approach late on, prompting the Magpies to pull out of negotiations.

Yoane Wissa’s last-minute arrival from Brentford further complicated matters, but in the end Osula remained on Tyneside.

Currently out with an ankle injury, the young striker has shown signs of progress this season despite limited game time.

Will Osula showing promising development

Osula’s goal against Liverpool in August ultimately meant little in terms of the result, but it highlighted the strides he has been making.

He also made a decisive impact from the bench during Newcastle’s comeback win over Fulham last month, turning the game around within minutes of coming on.

His standout display came against Bradford City, where he netted twice and demonstrated his growing confidence in front of goal.

However, his momentum was halted by the ankle problem that has kept him sidelined in recent weeks.

Eintracht Frankfurt maintain interest

According to reports from Bild, Frankfurt remain keen on securing Osula’s signature in January.

The striker is understood to be eager to find regular first-team football, something that may be harder to achieve once Wissa returns and competition for places intensifies.

The Saudi-led ownership blocked Frankfurt’s move on deadline day after terms shifted from a permanent deal to a loan.

Should the German club return with a similar fee for a full transfer, Newcastle might be more open to discussions.

Eddie Howe relieved to keep Osula

Manager Eddie Howe revealed he was ultimately pleased that Osula stayed. He said: “The intention with the Frankfurt deal was for Will to play regularly, especially after signing two strikers.

“But in the end it didn’t go through — and that turned out to be a relief because Yoane picked up an injury and Will became very important to us. We believe in his qualities.

He’s fast, athletic, and his attitude in training has helped him develop a better understanding of game management.

He’s really starting to look like a complete forward when he comes onto the pitch.”
