Lucas Paquetá was officially cleared of any alleged betting breaches at West Ham back in July, following a lengthy battle against the Football Association’s charges.

Despite the positive outcome, De Marco expressed concerns about the FA’s final documentation, which was released on 3 September and stretched to a staggering 314 pages.

While he celebrated his client’s acquittal, he made it clear on X that he would not be commenting further on the matter.

In his statement, De Marco described the ruling as:

“The independent Regulatory Commission’s written reasons in the Paquetá case have now been published.

Running to over 300 pages, the decision is understood to be the longest sports-related judgment ever issued globally.

That reflects the seriousness of the case, the sheer volume of evidence, and its importance both in the FA’s history and in my own career as a sports lawyer.

“It is a careful, forensic decision which I encourage anyone interested to read. I remain delighted for my client Lucas, cleared of all serious spot-fixing charges.

I am grateful to the legal team – especially Kendrah Potts and solicitor Alastair Campbell of Level – and to the Commission for its fair and thorough determination. I will not make any further comment. The decision speaks for itself.”

Focus turns back to West Ham

Now free from the burden of suspicion, Paquetá can concentrate fully on his football. His energy and commitment in the Forest game suggest he is ready to play a central role in West Ham’s season.

After what had been a poor start to the campaign, the victory combined with the conclusion of the trial could mark a turning point for the team.

The Brazilian, operating in his favoured number 10 role, may well be the spark the Hammers need.
