Newcastle United are reportedly one of several clubs laying the groundwork for a potential move to sign Hoffenheim winger Bazoumana Toure in 2026, according to reports from Caught Offside.
The Magpies have experienced a challenging and inconsistent Premier League campaign following the summer departure of Alexander Isak.
In an effort to compensate for his exit, Newcastle moved to reinforce their attacking options by bringing in Jacob Ramsey, Nick Woltemade, Anthony Elanga and Yoane Wissa.
Despite those additions, goals have not flowed as freely as hoped, and performances in the first half of the season have left plenty of room for improvement.
As a result, Eddie Howe is already looking ahead and considering further attacking reinforcements to help raise the level of his squad in the long term.
Behind the scenes, Newcastle are believed to be exploring the possibility of landing one of the Bundesliga’s most exciting young wide players, with preliminary work now underway on a future deal for Toure.
The 19-year-old has been a regular figure for Hoffenheim this season and has caught the eye with his dynamic displays.
Labelled an “explosive winger” by the Bundesliga’s official website, Toure has contributed two goals and four assists across 14 appearances, underlining his growing influence despite his young age.
His progress has not gone unnoticed, with several elite clubs monitoring his situation, including Manchester United.
Newcastle are understood to have started conducting background checks and detailed scouting reports on the Ivory Coast international.
One of Toure’s standout attributes is his exceptional pace, having reportedly been clocked at similar top speeds to current Magpies winger Anthony Elanga.
That kind of raw athleticism and unpredictability is something Howe values highly, particularly when facing deep defensive blocks.
Scouts have also been impressed by Toure’s effectiveness in a transition-based system, as well as his fearless approach when taking on defenders in one-on-one situations.
His willingness to attack isolated full-backs makes him a genuine game-changer.
However, Hoffenheim are reluctant to part with him midway through the campaign as they chase European qualification, and it is believed that even a €35 million (£30m) offer would fall short of their valuation.
A summer move therefore appears more realistic, with sources suggesting Hoffenheim would only consider selling for a fee closer to €45m (£39m).
Following Isak’s departure, Newcastle have been forced to rethink their attacking structure.
While Woltemade has impressed in spells and Wissa has recently returned from injury, the forward line has largely underdelivered.
Jacob Murphy remains a useful squad player, but there are doubts about his suitability as a regular starter for a side with top ambitions.
Meanwhile, Elanga, Harvey Barnes and Anthony Gordon could all potentially be sold to refresh the squad, creating space for a talent like Toure.
Although the cost would be significant given his limited experience at the very top level, a calculated gamble on a high-upside winger could prove worthwhile as Newcastle look to take the next step.
