Hungarian sensation Alex Toth could be on the move this winter, with growing speculation linking him to Newcastle United.

The 20-year-old midfielder, already capped nine times for Hungary, is attracting increasing attention across Europe — and his agent has now added further fuel to the transfer rumours.

A dynamic box-to-box presence, Toth has been touted as one of Hungary’s brightest prospects since Dominik Szoboszlai and has already been linked with several Premier League clubs.

In a surprising move, Toth’s representative, Bence Papp, has publicly acknowledged that the Ferencvaros youngster is expected to pursue a transfer soon.

Speaking to Hungarian publication Mandiner, Papp confidently stated that his client is the country’s standout talent of the past decade and strongly hinted that a move is inevitable within the next two transfer windows.

“The international media is also paying attention to the possibility of Alex’s transfer,” he said.

“He is being talked about among the midfielders with the greatest potential, and he has shown his qualities internationally with Ferencvaros and the national team.

Perhaps no Hungarian player of his age, still playing in the domestic league, has attracted so much attention.”

Papp added that both Toth and Ferencvaros deserve credit for his rapid rise.

While he refused to address specific rumours, he emphasised that clubs should keep a close watch on the player’s situation.

“Given the current market dynamics, I can’t say whether he will move this winter or in the summer,” he continued.

“What I can say is that a transfer will happen by next summer at the latest.

The level of interest in him is something we haven’t seen for a young Hungarian player in the past 10 years.

When the move takes place, it will significantly reshape how Hungarian football is viewed on the international stage.”

Eddie Howe on Newcastle’s January ambitions

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe also addressed the upcoming January transfer window last week, confirming that internal planning is now starting to intensify.

“We haven’t had full discussions yet, but we will very soon because we need to be prepared for whatever unfolds in January,” Howe said.

“You can go into the month expecting it to be quiet or busy, but the reality can end up being completely different.

“We have to be ready for every scenario. Ideally, we always want to keep the squad fresh, whether that means bringing in new faces or adjusting things internally.

“Every window, our intention is to be active. What that activity looks like, I genuinely don’t know yet.
