West Ham United Reach Agreement to Sign Kyle Walker-Peters, Says Fabrizio Romano
Following Vladimir Coufal’s departure as a free agent, Aaron Wan-Bissaka remains West Ham’s only natural right-back.
In response, manager Graham Potter has prioritized signing a new right-sided defender, and the club has now reached a breakthrough.
According to Fabrizio Romano on X, West Ham have agreed a deal in principle with Kyle Walker-Peters, who is set to sign a three-year contract.
The 28-year-old former Tottenham defender became a free agent after his contract with Southampton expired at the end of last season.
With the Saints relegated to the Championship, Walker-Peters opted not to extend his stay at St. Mary’s Stadium.
Besiktas had shown interest in securing his signature, but the proposed move eventually fell through.
West Ham seized the opportunity and acted swiftly to finalize a deal, bringing in a versatile fullback without a transfer fee—smart business by Potter’s side.
Romano confirmed:
“Kyle Walker-Peters has agreed to join West Ham on a three-year deal, here we go! After the deal collapsed with Besiktas, the fullback has accepted West Ham’s offer. Formal steps will follow soon.”
Valued at around £13 million by Transfermarkt, Walker-Peters brings valuable experience and can operate on either flank, though he naturally plays as a right-footed right-back.
Walker-Peters to West Ham: A Strategic Move
Under David Moyes, West Ham established themselves as a solid Premier League team regularly fighting for European qualification, even lifting the UEFA Conference League trophy.
But the club’s leadership opted for a managerial change to pursue a more attacking style of play.
Julen Lopetegui was brought in last summer with funds to revamp the squad, but results under the Spaniard fell short.
Potter stepped in midway through the campaign, steadied the side, and guided them to a finish above both Tottenham and Manchester United.
However, simply staying clear of relegation is not West Ham’s ambition. The goal is consistent European qualification.
With that in mind, Potter must now assemble a squad capable of meeting those expectations—and Walker-Peters could be a key piece in that puzzle.
