West Ham Competing to Sign 32-Year-Old Spanish International with 2010 First-Team Debut

Sevilla, Fiorentina, Roma, Como, and Ajax are also interested in signing him, so West Ham won’t have it easy.

Julen Lopetegui has made significant changes at West Ham this summer, bringing in eight new players and moving on six. However, the Spaniard isn’t done with his transfer business yet.

If Lopetegui can offload two or three players before the deadline, he may be able to bring in one or two more new signings.

The Hammers head coach could be on the verge of creating a top-six squad if he hasn’t done so already.

He could now be set to add a multiple league and Champions League winner to the London Stadium this summer.

West Ham Fighting to Sign Sergi Roberto

According to a report from Sport (print edition August 12th, page 7), West Ham are right in the race to sign Sergi Roberto on a free transfer. The Hammers have already been linked with a move for Roberto this summer.

I believe he could be a useful addition to Lopetegui’s squad, as long as his wage demands aren’t too excessive.

The 11-capped Spain international is looking for a new club this summer after being released by Barcelona.

The 32-year-old spent 14 years with Barca, making his first-team debut in 2010. Despite his advancing years, Roberto could be a valuable signing for the Hammers on a short-term deal, perhaps for two years.

Roberto can play as a right-back or in his original central midfield position. Lopetegui needs more competition in the right-back department, even with the imminent arrival of Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

He’s also seeking central midfield reinforcements.

Signing Sergi Roberto on a free transfer would address both needs and be a cost-effective option for West Ham.

Whether the Hammers will win the race for the former Barcelona man remains to be seen.
