Don Goodman Backs Max Lowe as a Smart Signing for Leicester City Amid Potential Sheffield Wednesday Exit
Amid uncertainty behind the scenes at Hillsborough, it was reported by Alex Crook earlier this week that Max Lowe is on Leicester City’s radar.
However, Alan Nixon has claimed that Preston North End could also emerge as strong contenders for his signature.
Lowe, 28, joined Sheffield Wednesday last summer following his departure from city rivals Sheffield United.
He made 34 Championship appearances last season as Danny Rohl’s side finished a respectable 12th in the table.
Football pundit Don Goodman has weighed in on the transfer rumours, commending Lowe’s performances throughout the campaign.
He highlighted Lowe’s influence on the Owls’ improvement after their previous relegation scare.
Goodman suggested that the defender could be a valuable addition to Martí Cifuentes’s Leicester side, particularly if he becomes available as a free agent.
“Max Lowe obviously traded one side of Sheffield for the other when he joined Sheffield Wednesday last summer,” Goodman told Football League World.
“It was a solid season for Wednesday overall following their relegation battle the year before, and Lowe himself had a solid season too.
“You wonder whether he might be one of the players to benefit from the club’s current financial difficulties, possibly being allowed to leave on a free. If that’s the case, Leicester would surely be interested.
“There’s fierce competition for places at Leicester, unless a number of defenders leave this summer. Still, I’d describe that potential move as solid.”
Leicester will host Sheffield Wednesday at the King Power Stadium on the opening day of the new campaign, set for 10 August.
Losing Lowe would be a major blow for Sheffield Wednesday, who are now focused on keeping their squad intact amid ongoing financial troubles.
If Lowe can legally terminate his contract due to unpaid wages, he would be within his rights to seek a more stable situation elsewhere.
Joining Leicester could provide Lowe the opportunity to fight for promotion back to the Premier League.
Even if game time isn’t guaranteed, the long-term prospects under Cifuentes could make the move worthwhile at this stage in his career.
