West Ham Prefer Permanent Sale of Midfielder James Ward-Prowse Before Friday’s (30 August) Transfer Deadline, Sources Say
On Monday (26 August), Football Insider reported that Nottingham Forest are planning a bold late move for the 29-year-old.
Sources indicate that the Midlands club is likely to test West Ham’s determination with a loan-to-buy offer for James Ward-Prowse and are just one of several Premier League clubs interested in his availability.
However, West Ham are eager to permanently reduce their squad size and wage bill, while also securing a transfer fee for the set-piece specialist.
It is believed that Julen Lopetegui’s side are looking to recoup as much of the £30 million they spent to sign Ward-Prowse 12 months ago as possible.
West Ham Prefer a Permanent Ward-Prowse Sale and Eye Soler as Replacement
West Ham have already lined up a replacement for Ward-Prowse, with Paris Saint-Germain’s Carlos Soler identified as their top target.
However, Football Insider also revealed on Monday (26 August) that the club needs to sell before making any new acquisitions.
England international Ward-Prowse scored seven goals and provided 11 assists in 51 appearances across all competitions in his first season at West Ham.
His contract at the London Stadium runs until June 2027.
Despite his contributions, the midfielder has only played 16 minutes in the first two games of this season and has fallen down the pecking order since Lopetegui’s arrival.
