However, Schär has repeatedly expressed his desire to finish his career at St. James’ Park — and his latest comments suggest that sentiment remains unchanged.

Speaking to The Chronicle, Schär reaffirmed his willingness to discuss a contract extension:

“I’ve said before I feel at home here. In football, you never know what happens — things can change quickly.

If a new deal is possible, that would be great, and of course I’d be open to it. For now, I’ll just try to show my quality, and we’ll see what happens in the next few weeks.”

The ball, as Schär put it, is firmly in Newcastle’s court.
