Mexico international Edson Álvarez left West Ham in the summer, joining Turkish giants Fenerbahçe on a season-long loan.

His departure was sanctioned by then-manager Graham Potter, but with Nuno Espírito Santo now at the helm, questions have surfaced over whether the midfielder could be brought back in January.

However, despite the speculation, it appears unlikely. Álvarez is currently sidelined with injury, and according to insider reports, West Ham are not planning to recall him midway through the season.

“Gold Cup winner Edson Álvarez is currently on loan at Fenerbahçe in Turkey,” explained Ex on The West Ham Way Patreon.

“It was Graham Potter who allowed him to leave and José Mourinho who took him to Turkey.

Both managers have since moved on, with Mourinho now at Benfica and Potter out of work after his dismissal at West Ham.”

Ex added: “I have been looking into whether West Ham have a recall clause should Nuno want him back in January.

While this isn’t from my usual source, I’ve been told there is no such option — which is normal with season-long loans.

The only alternative would be for both clubs to reach a mutual agreement to end the loan early.”

Such negotiations would mirror the case of James Ward-Prowse, whose loan with Nottingham Forest was terminated early when Nuno sanctioned his return.

But even then, Ex suggested the timing and circumstances make an Álvarez comeback improbable.

Any arrangement could only take place in the January window, and at present, there seems little appetite to pursue it.

For now, Álvarez is expected to remain in Turkey as he continues his recovery and Fenerbahçe push for success domestically and in Europe.
