Jack Grealish Considering Exit from Manchester City Amid Everton Interest

Jack Grealish is reportedly keen to leave Manchester City this summer after falling out of favour under Pep Guardiola.

The 29-year-old spent much of last season on the fringes of the first team, and it’s understood Guardiola no longer sees him as part of his long-term plans. As a result, City are open to letting Grealish leave on loan.

Everton, who announced their fifth summer signing on Wednesday (6 August) with the £25 million capture of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Chelsea, are among the clubs interested in Grealish.

West Ham have also shown interest, but it is the Toffees who have begun early negotiations with the Premier League champions.

However, a major obstacle to any potential deal is Grealish’s current wage package. Since making his £100 million move from Aston Villa, the England international has struggled to consistently reach the heights he once displayed in the Midlands.

His performances at Villa, particularly during the 2020/21 season where he contributed six goals and 12 assists, earned him a reputation as one of the league’s most creative and dynamic midfielders.

That form prompted City to meet Villa’s valuation, but Grealish soon found that Guardiola’s highly structured system limited his natural flair.

While he did enjoy a productive 2022/23 campaign—contributing to 16 goals during City’s treble-winning season—he has since failed to cement a regular starting role.

Now, with the 2026 World Cup on the horizon, Grealish is eager for a fresh start that could revive his international prospects.

Everton may offer the kind of environment that allows him to thrive again—especially under a manager like David Moyes, who is more likely to give him the creative freedom he enjoyed at Villa.

But his £300,000-per-week salary remains a significant hurdle. Speaking on TalkSPORT (7 August), former footballer Scott Minto commented on the situation, saying:

“If Grealish was still in that treble-winning form, Pep wouldn’t want him to leave. But Everton simply won’t pay £300,000 a week. That’s a lot of money.”

Minto added, “The real question is whether Jack is willing to lower his wages in order to play more regularly. If he genuinely wants to get back to his best, he may have to make that sacrifice.”

Ultimately, Grealish’s next move may hinge on his priorities. If regular game time and a return to form are truly what he seeks, a reduced wage and a switch to a club like Everton could be the perfect step forward.
