The Ghanaian international Mohammed Kudus could be the catalyst that sets West Ham United’s summer transfer window in motion at the London Stadium.

Kudus is currently in discussions over a move to Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

While the potential departure has sparked outrage among sections of the West Ham fanbase—particularly aimed at chairman David Sullivan—a £60 million fee for a player who underperformed last season may ultimately prove to be a wise move.

The deal would free up vital funds for a much-needed squad revamp, one that has been long overdue.

Roughly a third of that £60 million windfall is likely to be directed toward Slavia Prague.

According to Hammers News correspondent Graeme Bailey, head of recruitment Kyle Macaulay has signed off on a £21.5 million deal for promising defender El Hadji Malick Diouf.

Contact has also been established with Celta Vigo regarding Oscar Mingueza, meaning Kudus’ sale could help fund two defensive signings while still leaving around £20 million available for additional reinforcements.

Speaking on Thursday, Bailey confirmed that Macaulay had given the green light for both the Diouf and Mingueza deals.

Macaulay, a former Brighton scout, has brought a data-led, analytical approach to player recruitment at West Ham.

Reports suggest both Diouf and Mingueza—who represent Senegal and Spain at international level—ranked highly on the club’s performance metrics.

Slavia Prague initially rejected West Ham’s £17 million bid for Diouf, but recent reports from the Czech Republic indicate that a £21.5 million agreement is now close.

Meanwhile, Mingueza has a £17 million release clause in his contract with Celta Vigo, which could make that deal straightforward to complete.

Barcelona could also benefit from the Mingueza transfer. The Catalan club included a 50% sell-on clause when he joined Celta in 2022, meaning they would be entitled to around £8.5 million if West Ham activates his release clause.

This comes after Barca already received about £7 million following Jean-Clair Todibo’s permanent move to East London.

Senegalese outlet Wiw Sport reports that Diouf is expected to arrive in London this weekend to undergo a medical.

He would become West Ham’s first major signing of the summer—though likely not the last.

Mingueza, who helped guide Celta Vigo back into European competition for the first time in nearly a decade and is capable of playing on either side of the defence, may not require prolonged negotiations thanks to his fixed-price clause.

In addition to Diouf and Mingueza, Hammers News reports that Raphael Onyedika remains firmly on West Ham’s radar.

Macaulay identified the Nigerian midfielder as a top target earlier in the window. With Kudus edging closer to the exit door, West Ham could accelerate that deal as well.

If reports are accurate, Macaulay could land Diouf, Mingueza, and Onyedika for just £3.5 million more than what Tottenham are preparing to pay for Kudus alone—a potentially remarkable piece of business.
