Leicester City’s hierarchy have been evaluating 48-year-old Ruud van Nistelrooy’s future at the King Power Stadium as they consider alternative managerial options.

The club is now set to confirm his departure after less than six months in charge.

The Foxes are keen to appoint a manager with proven Championship experience to lead their push for promotion back to the Premier League.

Among the names under consideration are Sean Dyche and former Southampton boss Russell Martin, both of whom bring extensive second-tier experience.

Van Nistelrooy, who replaced Steve Cooper after impressing as an interim boss at Manchester United, initially signed a contract through June 2027.

However, that agreement will be terminated early following a disappointing spell.

Under his leadership, Leicester managed only five wins and three draws from 26 matches across all competitions. Since their relegation was confirmed, they’ve collected just seven points.

A particularly poor run saw Leicester fail to score in eight consecutive Premier League matches between 1 February and 7 April, sealing their relegation fate.

Further compounding their struggles, the club was hit with a breach of Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) for the 2023–24 season on Tuesday (20 May).

In a bid to strengthen the squad, Leicester are now targeting a return for former player Jeffrey Schlupp, according to Football Insider (20 May).

The 32-year-old, who spent the latter part of the season on loan at Celtic, is set to become a free agent with his Crystal Palace contract expiring next month.

Leicester view Schlupp’s experience and versatility as valuable assets as they look to rebuild and mount a serious Championship campaign next season.
