Everton Prospect Harrison Armstrong Hints at Championship Loan Move, with Wrexham a Possible Destination
After being named in every matchday squad for Everton’s first 24 Premier League games this season, 18-year-old prospect Lewis Dobbin Armstrong joined Derby County on loan during the final days of the winter transfer window.
Since his arrival at Pride Park, the young midfielder has made 11 starts in the Championship and played a key role in helping Derby edge clear of the relegation zone.
Heading into the final match of the season, the Rams are just one point above the bottom three.
Despite showing promise, it appears Everton fans may need to wait a bit longer to see Armstrong feature regularly at Goodison Park.
According to Alan Nixon via his Patreon (13 April), Blackburn Rovers have identified Armstrong as a summer target.
While there were initial suggestions of a potential £10 million permanent move, it now seems more likely that he’ll leave on another loan deal next season.
In a conversation with Derby fan and writer Scott Gretton (24 April), Armstrong revealed he would be open to another temporary move, even expressing interest in returning to Derby.
Meanwhile, former Everton scout Bryan King floated newly promoted Wrexham as another possible destination.
“I think it would be a good idea for Armstrong to go out on loan again,” King told Goodison News. “He’s still very young.
If he isn’t going to get regular first-team football at Everton, it makes sense for him to gain experience in the Championship. Wrexham could be one of the clubs discussed.”
Given his age and potential, Everton should avoid selling Armstrong at this stage.
Instead, they would benefit more from loaning him to a club where he can continue developing through regular match time.
The focus now should be on identifying a team that can offer consistent minutes and the right environment to support his growth.
Whether that’s a return to Derby, a move to Wrexham, or another Championship side, the priority must be Armstrong’s long-term development to maximize his chances of breaking into the Everton first team in the future.
