Newcastle United have officially entered negotiations to sign a player considered “perfect” for the team, with talks expected to pick up pace in the coming week.

Newcastle Open Talks with Burnley for Trafford

On Monday morning, Fabrizio Romano reported that Newcastle are currently in negotiations with Burnley over the signing of goalkeeper James Trafford.

Talks are expected to “accelerate” next week, potentially bringing the deal closer to completion.

Trafford’s arrival would be a significant upgrade on current first-choice keeper Nick Pope. Recent reports have suggested the 22-year-old is happy with the personal terms offered by the Magpies, making a transfer seem increasingly likely.

Trafford had an outstanding campaign with Burnley and earned praise from pundit Don Goodman, who described his performances as exceptional:
