Last summer, Newcastle United brought in Will Osula and Lloyd Kelly for the first team, while also making Lewis Hall’s loan from Chelsea permanent.

Despite the slow progress, journalist Fabrizio Romano shared an encouraging update suggesting Newcastle’s transfer activity could soon pick up momentum.

Romano reported that Newcastle and goalkeeper James Trafford have reached a full agreement on personal terms.

Burnley, who recently secured a replacement for Trafford, are now in negotiations with Newcastle over the transfer fee.

Romano tweeted:

This raises hopes that Trafford could complete his move to St. James’ Park as early as next week.

Manager Eddie Howe is keen to have fresh signings in place before the team returns to training a week on Monday.

Journalist Luke Edwards also noted that the club is aiming to finalize at least one deal by the end of next week.

Among Newcastle’s current targets, Trafford appears to be the most straightforward signing. If a compromise on the transfer fee can be reached soon, the deal should move quickly.

While expecting two new arrivals before pre-season begins might be ambitious, ongoing talks for Joao Pedro and Anthony Elanga mean it’s not out of the question.
