West Ham United are reportedly eyeing a move for Roma striker and AC Milan loanee Tammy Abraham in the coming weeks.
According to sources from Italy, the Hammers have “come forward” in pursuit of the former Chelsea forward, potentially seeking to make him the focal point of their attack next season.
Graham Potter, under pressure due to West Ham’s recent struggles in the Premier League, could turn to Abraham as a solution to his attacking woes.
The 26-year-old’s current form and uncertain future may present an ideal opportunity for West Ham to sign him while his value remains reasonable.
As reported by Calciomercato, the majority of players departing Milan this summer are expected to be English, with Abraham and Kyle Walker listed among the first exits.
Abraham joined Milan at the start of the season after injury setbacks during his time at Roma.
However, his Serie A performances have been underwhelming, managing only three goals in 28 league appearances.
His form has been better in cup competitions, scoring seven times in 15 matches across the Coppa Italia, Champions League, and Supercoppa.
Milan have decided not to extend Abraham’s stay, and he is set to return to Roma. However, he is unlikely to remain at the Stadio Olimpico on his current £93,000-per-week wages.
West Ham are believed to be one of the clubs showing interest in securing his services, with Abraham reportedly open to a Premier League return after four years abroad.
While he ideally wants to join a top-tier club, he is said to be considering a move to the London Stadium, despite West Ham’s disappointing season.
West Ham’s need for a reliable striker is evident. Niclas Füllkrug has struggled with injuries, scoring only three times in 18 appearances.
Michail Antonio has been sidelined since Christmas, Danny Ings is expected to leave when his contract ends, and Evan Ferguson has not impressed since arriving on loan from Brighton.
Given the club’s limited attacking options, Abraham could be seen as the ideal candidate to lead the line and help revive West Ham’s fortunes in the upcoming campaign.
