Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly added Porto striker Samu Aghehowa to their transfer shortlist following the return of Fabio Paratici as sporting director, according to journalist Graeme Bailey.
The North London club are said to be closely monitoring the 21-year-old Spaniard’s progress after his electric start to the season in Portugal, where he has already scored eight goals in nine matches.
Paratici is understood to be a huge admirer of the forward and has placed him among Spurs’ potential attacking reinforcements as he begins planning for the upcoming transfer windows under Thomas Frank.
Although Aghehowa’s contract with Porto runs until June 2029 and includes an £87 million release clause, Tottenham could be able to negotiate a lower fee due to the Portuguese club’s ongoing financial constraints.
The highly rated forward has been on the radar of several Premier League sides over the past 18 months.
Chelsea were close to signing him from Atletico Madrid last year for around £34.5 million, but the deal collapsed over contract complications.
The Blues instead turned their attention to Joao Felix, allowing Aghehowa to join Porto shortly after on a five-year deal.
Since arriving in Portugal, Aghehowa has become one of Europe’s brightest young attacking talents.
Last season, he netted 27 goals and provided three assists in 45 appearances, helping Porto to a third-place league finish and Europa League qualification.
His side will face Nottingham Forest—who are set to appoint Sean Dyche as manager—on Thursday in their group-stage campaign.
Tottenham, meanwhile, invested heavily in attacking options during the summer, recruiting Xavi Simons, Mohammed Kudus, and Randal Kolo Muani, with the latter joining on loan.
However, record signing Dominic Solanke has yet to feature this term as he continues his recovery from ankle surgery.
