Tottenham Hotspur are facing fresh competition from a fellow Premier League club in their pursuit of a highly-rated “playmaker”, according to a recent report.

With Thomas Frank preparing for his first full season at the helm, Spurs are actively working to strengthen key areas of the squad during the summer transfer window.

The North London club has already made a statement with their £55 million acquisition of winger Mohammed Kudus from West Ham.

This move marked the end of a 14-year unofficial transfer freeze between the two London sides.

Kudus has been spotted in Spurs training gear ahead of their pre-season clash against Reading, and he joins Mathys Tel and Kota Takai as the club’s first three confirmed signings this summer.

Originally, Tottenham had hoped to welcome Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White alongside Kudus at Hotspur Way.

The English playmaker was reportedly on the verge of completing a £60 million transfer, with a medical scheduled last Friday.

However, the deal has been unexpectedly delayed due to Forest launching legal proceedings, alleging that Spurs made an illegal approach for their prized asset, as revealed by Sky Sports’ Rob Dorsett.

Despite the legal dispute, there remains optimism that Gibbs-White will eventually complete the move to North London, according to Spurs insider Alasdair Gold.

If successful, the double swoop of Kudus and Gibbs-White would amount to a significant £115 million investment in Spurs’ attacking options.

Nottingham Forest have filed a formal complaint with the Premier League, questioning how Tottenham became privy to confidential contractual details related to Gibbs-White (Standard Sport).

While Forest remain insistent that the midfielder is not for sale (Sky Sports), Spurs are still pressing forward with hopes of completing the transfer.

Despite an underwhelming first season in Serie A, Juventus are willing to offload the £138,000-per-week midfielder to fund their own summer rebuild.

However, Spurs’ path to signing Luiz has been complicated by new interest from Everton. As reported by Calciomercato, the Toffees are now looking to hijack the move, having opened direct negotiations with Juventus.

Everton are determined to support manager David Moyes as he embarks on his first full season back on Merseyside.

Juventus are demanding a fee of around £35 million for Luiz and have ruled out any loan offers, preferring a permanent sale to reinvest in their squad immediately.

Although Aston Villa’s president of football operations, Monchi, had earlier backed Luiz to thrive at Juventus, his time in Italy may be cut short.

“He’s playing less than expected, but we’re talking about a strong player,” Monchi told La Gazzetta dello Sport. “Some players settle quickly, others need time.

Patience is needed, but Douglas’ qualities are not in question. He’ll become important for Juve.

“He’s a playmaker, and every ball he plays has purpose. Last season he featured in 90% of our games and was decisive.”
