Steve Cooper Says Leicester City Could Have Made More Signings If Appeal Verdict Came Earlier
Steve Cooper has revealed that Leicester City could have completed more transfers if the club’s successful appeal against a Premier League ruling had been resolved earlier.
Cooper, the only Welsh manager in the Premier League, became involved in the long-standing dispute over an alleged breach of spending rules when he took charge this summer.
Leicester, who were promoted, avoided a potential points deduction after their appeal was upheld, arguing that the independent commission ruling on the case lacked jurisdiction.
“It’s obviously a positive outcome,” said Cooper, the former Swansea City manager.
“There’s a bit of frustration, as things might have been different in the summer transfer window if we had known sooner. I’ll have to move on, but I’m very happy with the squad.”
Leicester had been linked with several potential transfers that didn’t materialize, including Arsenal winger Reiss Nelson, who joined Fulham on loan, and Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley, who signed with Brighton & Hove Albion.
Despite this, Leicester added key players during the summer window, such as midfielder Oliver Skipp from Tottenham Hotspur and center-back Caleb Okoli from Atalanta.
Cooper welcomed the appeal decision for bringing much-needed clarity to the club. “It’s good for the supporters and for the game to have clarity.
As a group, we were prepared to fight for the club if the decision had gone against us,” the 44-year-old added.
“We need to remain united as a club and show our strength. It’s a challenge, but one we’re ready to face.”
Leicester, currently with one point from three league matches, will visit Crystal Palace on Saturday.
