Graham Potter was dismissed by West Ham United on 27 September after securing only one win from the club’s opening six matches across all competitions.

The 50-year-old had been appointed in January as Julen Lopetegui’s successor following a disappointing spell under the Spaniard.

However, Potter failed to reverse the team’s fortunes during his nine-month tenure at the London Stadium.

The Hammers have since moved quickly to appoint Nuno Espirito Santo as their new head coach.

The Portuguese manager has collected just one point from his opening two fixtures against Everton and Arsenal as he looks to stabilise a struggling side.

According to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Potter is believed to have received around £5million in compensation following his departure.

The former Chelsea and Brighton boss managed only six wins in 25 matches during his time in east London.

Borson explained: “It’s probably about £5m. He did very well historically from compensation, especially at Chelsea, where they had to pay a huge amount to Brighton as well.

But since this came early in his contract, he was likely in a strong negotiating position when he joined West Ham.”

Supporters had grown increasingly frustrated with Potter before his dismissal, as the team’s performances and results showed little sign of improvement.

Following his sacking, Potter could now face significant challenges in finding another Premier League job. Borson added: “It’s compensation for a genuine loss.

After back-to-back struggles at Chelsea and West Ham, it will be very difficult for him to land another top-flight role.

That payout might have to last a long time, and he may need to step down to the Championship to rebuild his career.”

West Ham’s poor start has left them 19th in the Premier League table with just four points from their opening seven games, raising further concerns about the club’s direction despite the managerial change.
