Cooper has reportedly decided to sell ‘incredible’ Leicester City player just a year after his arrival – journalist.

Leicester City followed up their opening day draw at home against Tottenham Hotspur with a 2-1 defeat at Fulham, a result that is likely to have left manager Steve Cooper disappointed.

 

 

The concern from both matches goes beyond the results; it’s the performances that have been troubling. In both fixtures, Leicester was clearly outplayed.

 

 

Against Tottenham, the team was under constant pressure and only managed a draw thanks to a second-half Jamie Vardy goal, which came against the run of play, securing a 1-1 draw on Monday night.

 

Leicester fans were hoping for a stronger team performance against Fulham.

 

While there were moments where the Foxes seemed capable of creating problems, Fulham ultimately deserved their win.

 

With just a few days left in the transfer window, Cooper is likely focused on potential new signings.

 

 

However, it seems he has decided to sell a player who joined only last summer in an effort to raise funds and make room in the squad.

Steve Cooper Approves Sale of Leicester City Striker Tom Cannon

 

Despite being short on attacking options, Cooper is looking to bring in more firepower to support Leicester’s survival bid.

 

 

The return of Jamie Vardy to fitness for the start of the season was an unexpected boost, but Patson Daka will be sidelined for a few months due to an ankle injury.

 

 

The club has also signed Bobby De Cordova-Reid and Jordan Ayew this summer. Both are versatile players who have experience as strikers.

 

 

However, the only other true center forward currently at the club is 21-year-old Tom Cannon, who Cooper appears unwilling to rely on, as evidenced by Cannon’s exclusion from the squad against Fulham.

 

Journalist Alan Nixon reported on his Patreon that Leicester is “looking to sell striker Tom Cannon – with Sheffield United and Stoke City trying to raise the cash.”

 

 

Nixon mentions that Leicester has “decided to cash in on Cannon a year after signing him from Everton and they will seek a similar £7 million fee.”

 

He further explains: “The Blades are finalizing a takeover and had hoped to land Cannon on loan for their promotion push but are working on a loan-to-buy offer.

 

 

Stoke is also a long-term admirer of Cannon but may be reluctant to put the money down immediately for the forward.

 

 

Cannon is still under contract for four more years but wants to play and is waiting for the right offer.”

 

Leicester Might Regret Selling Cannon So Soon

Following an impressive loan spell at Preston during the 2022/23 season, Leicester was convinced to pay Everton £7 million for Cannon’s services.

 

 

However, his first season at the King Power Stadium proved challenging, with Cannon scoring just two league goals and finding it difficult to get playing time behind Vardy, Daka, and the now-departed Kelechi Iheanacho.

 

Given this context, it’s understandable that Cooper is not counting on Cannon to play a significant role this season.

 

 

However, selling him now could be seen as shortsighted. Cannon is still just 21 years old and shows clear talent.

 

 

After a standout performance for Preston against Reading in April 2023, former West Ham striker Dean Ashton praised Cannon’s ability, saying, “Yeah, almost a one in two man, which at Championship level is incredible for such a young player – with such little experience.

 

 

But he is looking more and more comfortable and confident.
