Liverpool Maintain Interest in Alexander Isak as Striker Pushes for Summer Exit
Liverpool remain keen on signing Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, with the Swedish international reportedly eager to leave the Magpies during the current transfer window, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Isak is widely regarded as one of the most talented forwards in European football, attracting interest from several top clubs.
However, Newcastle’s reported asking price of around £150 million could deter many potential buyers.
That figure surpasses the sum Liverpool recently paid to sign Florian Wirtz, making a deal for Isak a costly pursuit.
Despite already securing the signings of Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, and Hugo Ekitike this summer, Liverpool are not done in the market.
Adding a proven Premier League striker like Isak would significantly boost their title credentials, but Newcastle’s reluctance to part ways with him presents a major hurdle.
On his podcast, Fabrizio Romano provided an update, stating that Isak has decided to leave Newcastle and has communicated his desire to the club after discussions with his representatives.
“I can confirm that the decision has been made on the player’s side,” Romano said. “Alexander Isak wants to leave Newcastle this summer.
He’s been clear with the club after several talks with his agents. His position is now very clear — he wants to go.”
Romano added that Isak views Liverpool as a “really important club” capable of competing for every major trophy next season.
The Reds are believed to be preparing an offer in the region of £130 million, though that might fall short of Newcastle’s valuation.
If Isak continues to push for an exit, it remains to be seen whether Newcastle’s stance will soften.
While it’s understandable the club want to keep such a valuable player, holding onto someone who no longer wishes to stay could create tension within the squad.
