Rios, meanwhile, has been a standout performer in the U.S., showcasing qualities that fit the profile of what several European clubs – including West Ham United – are seeking this summer.

West Ham were first linked with Rios back in October 2024. Despite the months that have passed, their interest remains intact.

Manager Graham Potter is reportedly keen on finding a midfielder with physicality and technical skill – traits that Rios offers in abundance.

This pursuit comes after the Hammers missed out on Martin Baturina, who instead joined Como in a £21 million move.

However, West Ham are not alone in their pursuit. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Inter Milan have made initial contact over a move for Rios, as they search for a potential replacement for Hakan Calhanoglu, who may be heading to Galatasaray.

Romano noted that Rios is one of several players on Inter’s radar, alongside Lazio’s Nicolo Rovella.

Italian journalist Pasquale Guarro has revealed that West Ham recently submitted a £21.5 million bid for Rios, which Palmeiras rejected.

West Ham are also targeting Slavia Prague’s El Hadji Malick Diouf, though their £17 million offer was similarly turned down.

These bids suggest the club is already preparing to reinvest the expected proceeds from the likely sale of Mohammed Kudus, who continues to be heavily linked with Tottenham Hotspur.

The situation surrounding Richard Rios could become clearer after Palmeiras exit the Club World Cup, which may happen if Chelsea overcome them in their upcoming clash. Until then, speculation continues to mount.

According to Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola, Rios is currently one of the most sought-after players in South America.

He’s previously been tracked by European giants such as Porto, Sporting Lisbon, Manchester United, and Tottenham.

Nicola also states that Palmeiras are hoping to receive closer to £34 million (€40 million) for the 24-year-old midfielder – significantly more than what West Ham have offered so far.

“Due to the high level of interest, Palmeiras dream of securing a fee of up to €40 million,” Nicola explained. “A transfer could very well happen in July, but only if their valuation is met.”

While Richard Rios remains a serious option, West Ham’s top midfield target is still believed to be Raphael Onyedika of Club Brugge.

Hammers News reports that head of recruitment Kyle Macaulay has approved potential deals for Diouf and Celta Vigo defender Oscar Mingueza, while identifying Onyedika as the ideal addition to improve West Ham’s underperforming midfield.
