While Nathan Collins has been linked with a move to Spurs as a potential replacement for the likely-departing Cristian Romero, Bryan Mbeumo appears to be the priority target on Thomas Frank’s wishlist.
The Cameroon international has also attracted interest from Manchester United, a club currently entangled in a tense rivalry with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy. However, Levy seems poised for another win over the Red Devils.
Tottenham have now made a substantial £70 million bid for Mbeumo, according to the Daily Mirror (13 June).
His connection to Spurs had been building even before Frank’s appointment, and the club have wasted no time in pursuing the 25-year-old forward.
Mbeumo enjoyed a standout season, delivering a career-best return with 20 goals and eight assists, cementing his reputation as one of the Premier League’s most formidable right-wingers.
While Manchester United’s offer was initially considered more lucrative, it’s believed Levy was reluctant to match their terms.
However, Frank’s arrival might help Spurs negotiate a more reasonable salary within their wage framework.
Former Spurs scout Bryan King, speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, expressed confidence in the deal going through, citing Mbeumo’s comfort with London and his relationship with Frank.
“It’s a move that mirrors what United were offering,” King explained. “But it’ll be much easier for Mbeumo to move within London than up to Manchester. He’d be surrounded by a staff and manager he’s familiar with—only the shirt changes.
“I don’t see any reason why Spurs can’t get the deal done.”
Levy’s aggressive pursuit of Mbeumo signals a shift in direction. After facing heavy criticism over the last six months—especially following the controversial sacking of Ange Postecoglou—Levy appears intent on backing his new manager.
Under Postecoglou, only Dominic Solanke and James Maddison could be seen as prime-age signings of real impact. In contrast, Frank could secure a high-profile arrival within days of taking the reins.
This early move suggests a revised transfer strategy and renewed faith from Levy in Frank’s vision for Tottenham’s future.
