Everton urged to sign Patrick Bamford as the solution to their attacking woes this season

Following the loss, pundit Richard Keys took aim at Everton’s attacking problems and questioned why the club have not moved for former Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford, who remains without a club after his release in the summer.
Keys, speaking on BeIN SPORTS alongside Andy Gray on 18 October, said: “They haven’t got a striker.
I still don’t know why someone doesn’t sign Patrick Bamford. He’s a free agent who knows his way around. He’s certainly better than what Everton have.”
Gray had earlier criticised Beto’s finishing, remarking: “He’s got to score there, Beto, sorry. It’s a major problem for Everton at centre-forward.”
However, Keys’ suggestion that Bamford would be an upgrade for Everton is widely seen as misguided.
The 31-year-old endured a miserable 2023–24 season with Leeds, featuring just 17 times in the Championship without scoring.
Plagued by injuries, he has managed only 12 goals across the last three seasons and looks far removed from the player who once impressed in the Premier League.
If Bamford struggled to find the net in the second tier, there is little reason to believe he would suddenly rediscover his scoring touch against top-flight defences.
His release by Leeds boss Daniel Farke underlined his decline, and any move to Goodison Park would likely be a step backwards for both player and club.
While Everton’s attacking woes are obvious — with Beto and Barry both failing to convince — signing Bamford on a free would be an act of desperation rather than a solution.
He is a shadow of his former self, and Keys’ latest claim once again proves why his football opinions should be taken with a pinch of salt.
